Maintenance outages have been a bit too frequent in my opinion. When the parsing or mail server is down, even missing one day, it results in a slew of false positive "No results" which we have to manually cleanup. Support can be a bit slow. Also, it appears custom parsing rules apply to all tenants, so this can result in slow build times. I would prefer being able to create the custom parsing rules ourselves and for our own tenant.

Summary:

Overall, this solution is amazing and has transformed our backup monitoring process!

Benefits:

Very useful to have and very responsive

Difficult to use initially but got used to it after a while

XtraBackup has delivered on its promise since it launched in the market. Being a large enterprise, we have deployments and production on various public clouds and we believe in Hybrid infra. XtraBackup has been a great solution for our MySQL-based servers. While evaluating the product we were really impressed with its appealing features like compression, streaming, parallelism. And one of the best parts is that it supports incremental backups. We have loads of VMs running and with slight configurations, we can easily trigger XtraBackup to do its job. Percona has even open-sourced its products which offers great scope for its features to be enhanced as the larger community would always keep contributing to it. Lastly, the customer support and the community is always there to resolve your queries and help you use them hassle-free.

Drawbacks:

XtraBackup has really lived up to its expectation during evaluation and served its purpose perfectly fine and we are yet to find any cons in it.

It has no disturbance will making backup interference at moments. Easy to operate, relevant to work, and fastest to load.

MySQL backups have traditionally used solutions like mysqldump. But when your database is bigger or you need a more advanced solution, Oracle charges for this commercial grade solution. Percona XtraBackup is a free solution that matches 1:1 all the commercial features for backups that you can find in Oracle's solution. The syntax is also almost identical, so you can move from one to another without effort. But once you have started using Percona XtraBackup you will not want to go back!
