We develop a lot of Sharepoint projects that need grids and reporting features, and trying to customize with free jquery plugins is a pain. The Dev Express grids and reporting simplified our development costs and clients were able to get more features from the default grids. Eg: the reporting grids have a feature to inline edit, group by and export to excel exactly as is directly from the plugin. This is a lifesaver for the clients to not redo their work on the excel that was done on the webpage. There is ample documentation and support for scripts in all popular web languages.

Drawbacks:

Other than obviously allowing us to mass-print, i.e 1000+ report batch prints, the customer support has always been very helpful. Recently had an issue with Jewellery label reports printing badly on a very small label - and they constantly gave me examples on what to try. Fixed in the end, with their help :)

Drawbacks:

Super rich reporting tool - like ssrs, crystal or ms access but on steroids. Works on practically every conceivable platform (we use asp.net). The report builder can be deployed royalty free to users which is a very unique and important feature for us. Was VERY east to embed this tool into our print management software.

Drawbacks:

Lacks a query building feature (such as microsoft's QBE grid)

Was looking for a comprehensive reporting tool like SSRS where we could give our customers (printing companies) the royalty free ability to tweak their own reports i.e. work orders, production schedules, estimate templates, invoices and the like and this was the solution. Very happy with the results.

Because Stimulsoft offers many more linking options between tables, it is able to cross reference data sets with any common element via different bands, without having to bring in everything via variables and subreports.

Also, there is not a lot of help for Stimulsoft available on line, outside of the company's own training documentation. This is lacking in many respects and while training videos are available, none of them have sound.

If you have specific needs with respect to different data sets, Stimulsoft is a great option that can take a lot of the labor, and formula writing, out of your report creation. However, if your needs are not specifically in the areas Stimulsoft excels, it may not be worth the extra hassle in dealing with the layout and additional training.
