«Analytic Solver - Serious Horsepower»
Usability
Support
Features
Overall rating
Benefits:
The thing I like most about Analytic Solver is that it has handled everything I've thrown at it. In fact, it's limited only by my abilities as a user.
Drawbacks:
Since being introduced to Metalogs as a means of quickly and flexibly building distributions, I've grown to dislike the distribution builder in Analytic Solver. I wish they would include the Metalog as an option.
In sum:
I primarily use Analytic Solver to analyze stochastic problems associated with government social service delivery systems. For example, I've run analyses to determine the probabilities of meeting legal settlement system performance targets. Most recently, I've used Analytic Solver to inform leadership about reimbursement rate setting and contract terms for supported employment service providers.

Benefits:
Very affordable, easy to use and has a high level of functionality
Drawbacks:
I haven't seen alot of functionality improvements being made, or if they are they are not well communicated

Benefits:
For a guy who did all the finance and accounting works on Excel, the Analytic solver is very helpful. I can plot graphs and analyze data in one go. Besides data analysis, it also offers analytic solver for both linear and non-linear optimization which is powerful for anyone who does supply chain and optimization math.
Drawbacks:
It's hard to build a complex model from the solver. It doesn't allow the combination of multiple models at the same time.
«Simulation Optimization »

Benefits:
Easy to use, efficient to find solutions, excellent support
Drawbacks:
Written documentation is good but the search index could be improved
In sum:
I have used the software for simulation optimization. I wish to have mire time to use other capabilities such as stochastic programming.

Benefits:
- very easy to setup and solve complex models - seamless integration of simulation and optimization engine when modelling for optimal solutions within uncertain environment - stable when using complex models
Drawbacks:
- problem with the software not recognizing that it has been licensed. Keeps on bombing out and required one to re-log in to allow the model to run again - very annoying - if one is working remotely without wi-fi connection, software does not work because of licencing issues
In sum:
I'm very happy with the software. It integrates seamlessly with Excel and is able to deal with, high level of complexity. I would recommend Analytic Solver to any serious modeler.

Benefits:
Easy to use. Applications can be changed with little effort. i have used it to solve several types of problems and have never been disappointed.
Drawbacks:
i have had NO negative experiences. the software performs as advertised and the support is exceptional.
In sum:
Blending scrap to create alloys for melting. Design of plant lay out. (Minimize travel between work stations.) Select best city to locate certain equipment based on raw material available and transportation costs.

Benefits:
Most managers do have Excel models, financial, economical, product design. This product let you find the best you can do
Drawbacks:
Most people do not know of their existence and how to use it, it is a hidden treasure, most people are not delivering the most, because they do not know about this
In sum:
The best corporate performance is up to you, because most employees already have the models, but they do not know how to improve them.

Benefits:
It is a high-end add-on to Excel. I like working in Excel largely because we work with a lot of nonprofits who don't have a load of money to spend on software and they all know Excel, but don't know GAMS, R, etc.
Drawbacks:
The licensing. No other software firm I am aware of ties the license to both IP address and user name. Also, the educational licensing is not a great deal compared to many other firms.
In sum:
We mostly work in optimization, occasionally with LOTS of variables (9.2 million). Solver can solve those (given a big enough machine to run on) but the software cost is prohibitive.
