Benefits:

It's a breeze to set up repeat departures without duplicate data entry, and to copy standard supplements and standard tour information (like cancellation policies) across the system without setting them up again for each departure or tour concept. Everything is structured to cut way down on data entry. Making reservations is straightforward and quick. Centaur lets you have a library of custom merge emails/letters we send to travelers and inquirers, and for online customer interaction, they can enroll, pay, and fill out forms securely online, all integrated to their booking record. It generates a web booking module for each tour, which supports different logos/brands, and also can function as a content manager to present the tour itinerary, photos and other marketing text on web pages - all fed from the Centaur backend. We've also integrated just the booking module into existing web pages as well. Supports cruises with multi decks and cabin categories. Financial functions and reports structured the way we need.

Drawbacks:

I'd like to be able to make changes to templates and reports myself, and to import new travelers lists ourselves, rather than have the support team do it - but understand the reasons they don't want users making structural changes that can mess things up. Wish it allowed for more than one main tour price per occupancy type. We deal with that with supplements to adjust the main price if needed.

In sum:

Centaur is structured well for our business, that has several tour product lines and call centers, each with different logos/branding and policies for different sponsoring partners. The "Companies" feature in Centaur let us slot that right in. It can even support multiple merchant credit card accounts, setting up the logic to route the payments to the right processor depending on the brand settings. But even for a tour operator with a single product line, it's well suited. Its web sales and booking module is robust and easy to deploy - and they can customize it to your needs too. Travelers can enroll, fill out travel forms, receive their final invoice and pay online as well. We've been using it for almost three years, deploying more features in stages. The development and support is much quicker than the usual web development cycle, and they have come up with solutions to all our challenges. Most standard support requests and changes are done by the next day. They make periodic system enhancements so the technology stays current.

Benefits:

Centaur has enabled our team to work collaboratively and efficiently on running a travel program for our alumni. It offers a wide variety of technical tools that help us plan, price, sell and track trips. It's many reports help us manage our work flow and communications with travelers, while also monitoring important financial metrics. It has been very powerful in transforming the way we work and it has made us not only more effective at serving our travelers but also more productive.

Drawbacks:

There were technical challenges in the process of developing our Centaur instance and tailoring it to our business. Learning to use it and customizing it to our needs was also difficult, however, once we passed that hurdle, we have found it to be worth all of the effort.

In sum:

We especially like the fact that we are able to access Centaur in the cloud and that it's security features are strong enough to meet our organizational IT requirements. Working with the Centaur team has been a good experience; they were very open to making improvements to serve our needs, and they are constantly upgrading the platform with valuable features.

Customizable reports, team is very helpful and provides prompt feedback when we inquire about a solution to an issue, tickets answered in 1 business day and even if the issue is not solved the team writes to let us know they are working on the issues, constantly improving the system, cater to our needs when we want to adapt or improve something

Drawbacks:

As with all software, sometimes there are spontaneous glitches in the system, when something is changed on one report or in one area it is not always immediately updated in another essential location. Again, this is to be expected in a complex software that has been highly customized to fit our needs. Some tasks are only able to be completed by the Centaur team and not our staff resulting in a delay in completing the task (as the typical response from the team is 1 business day later). But overall delay is minimal.

In sum:

Positive experience working with the Centaur team. Enjoy the features that it offers for both our staff and for our travelers. The system is both straightforward and user friendly.

Our reservations system has necessarily evolved over the many years we've been with Centaur, and the team has been highly responsive in working with us to customize and develop new solutions to meet our changing business needs. Whether it's creating tailor-made marketing and operations reporting tools, growing our ecommerce capabilities, or periodically updating the system with (unasked for) functional and interface improvements, the team impresses with its "can-do" attitude, timely responses, and effort to consistently, proactively improve its product.

My team of Reservation Agents and Guest Service Advisors use Centaur on a daily basis for our packaged educational tours, and we're very happy with its broad functionality. What we like best about Centaur is that we can communicate with travelers from within the reservations system quickly and easily using templated documents that allow for considerable customization. The online booking function is also a welcome upgrade from our previous system, which did not have that capability. Finally, the large amount of general information that can be stored on the backend of the system for our reservation agents to access has allowed us to sunset a database that was previously used solely for this purpose.

Drawbacks:

Every now and then a glitch will pop up that requires some quick action, but this happens infrequently, and it's to be expected with any evolving software system.

In sum:

Overall, it has been a pleasure working with the Centaur team. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the team is very responsive, and requests are addressed quickly and professionally. We have been impressed with how open the team has been to our requests for modifications, and we've felt very well supported when we encounter a challenging situation that requires collaborative problem-solving. It's been fun watching the system evolve over the past few years, and we're looking forward to more great additions in the near future!

Xperitas has used Centaur for over 3 years now and we have been pleased with the service and functionalities of the system. Centaur is a wonderful travel database that has provided our organization with many different customized reports and features. The team responds to our inquires in a timely manner, and usually fix the issue or assist us by the following business day after the inquiry has been made. There have been many improvements and advancements made to the system over our time working with them, and our organization has benefited greatly from the system updates.

Drawbacks:

There are a few features that have an extra step involved and could be improved to increase the productivity of the system. Also, there have been many times where glitches in the system occur, and a reason for the glitch is not provided.

In sum:

We have been fairly satisfied with our experience with Centaur TMBS, and love that they are constantly working to improve the system to better assist their customers.

In sum:

We have been on the system going on 10 years. With ANY system there is always going to be an issue someplace or some problem on an update, but know that you will have that with any system you work with. What is refreshing with Centaur TBMS, is the speed at which things are fixed and how seriously a minor issue is resolved. And to top it off, it is resolved correctly. Our uptime for our reservations system is better than any other server we run in-house, and I really do not remember the last time we were down, as it has been years. The other side of the coin is security compliance, which is tested by a third party on a quarterly basis, and we are passing every quarter. So if you are looking for data to always be on for you, but not on for the bad guys, then Centaur TBMS should be a serious option.

We have asked Centaur over the years for customized solutions, and they team at Centaur never balks at what we need. To give an example, all of our accounting is done by tour end date. Centaur adapted the reporting that we need to accommodate that need. That's just one of many examples where they have been willing to work with us.

Drawbacks:

I can't comment as much on the marketing side as we use a different data base solution, but from the Reservations side, and for the operations reports we need, Centaur fits the bill.

In sum:

We started with Centaur in 2010 and and since that time we have been very pleased. If there is ever a glitch, it's itrack software allows us to report the issue, and the Centaur team responds quickly...often within 24 hours. In my dealings with other tour operators, I think most will agree that Centaur is the premier solution for tour operators. I also think their pricing structure is very fair. We are pleased!
